Elite Welding & Fabrication: The Agoura Hills Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Elite-compatible hinges, brackets, frame reinforcements, and weld-in replacement sections for residential gates across Agoura Hills. Typical installed repair work runs $280 to $575 depending on the part, the extent of the weld, and whether the gate has to come off its post. Most Elite hinge and bracket replacements are done in one visit, and we carry the common Elite hinge sizes on the truck.

Homeowners usually discover the failure the hard way. The gate starts dragging on the driveway, a hinge pin has sheared, or a weld at the frame corner has cracked clean through and the gate leans a few inches lower than it did last month. In Agoura Hills, what starts as a sagging gate becomes a gate that won’t open at all, usually on a morning when you’re already late. We have seen every version of it, including the gate that was still hanging on by one hinge and a length of nylon rope.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite gates use a few distinct hinge and frame configurations depending on the series. The most common in Agoura Hills are the Estate series, the Classic SL, and the Hercules heavy-duty line. Each runs different hinge barrel diameters and post brackets, so matching the part to the model matters. A hinge from an Estate series will not fit a Hercules post flange without modification, and we would rather not modify a new hinge to make it work. That is how a gate ends up right back where it started six months later.

If you can find the model plate on the gate frame, that is the fastest way to identify what you have. The plate is usually riveted near the bottom rail on the hinge side. If the plate is gone, which happens often on coastal-facing properties, we identify the part by measurement: hinge barrel diameter, leaf thickness, and the bolt-to-bolt spacing on the post bracket. Elite used a 1-1/4 inch barrel on most mid-size Estate models and a heavier 1-1/2 inch on the Hercules line. We match OEM Elite parts when they are available, and for out-of-production hinges we use domestic aftermarket equivalents with the same barrel bore and leaf profile. Victor Salinas has been matching these parts for three decades, and he will tell you straight whether OEM or a quality equivalent is the right call for your gate.

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags toward the latch side. The top hinge has worn its barrel or the weld at the top frame corner is separating. On an Elite Estate gate, the top hinge carries most of the load, and when it goes the gate drops visibly within a week.
  • You hear a grinding or scraping sound when the gate moves. The hinge pin is running metal-on-metal because the bushing inside the barrel is gone. Left alone, the pin shaves the barrel thin and eventually snaps. We see this regularly on gates that were never greased in fifteen years.
  • The gate bounces or shudders near the closed position. A lower frame weld has cracked, or the lower hinge bracket has pulled away from the post. The gate no longer tracks straight, and the closer motor fights against it on every cycle.
  • Visible cracking in the finish at the frame joints. That is the telltale sign of a stressed weld underneath. Powder coat hides it for a while, but once the crack line appears through the finish, the weld has already failed.
  • The gate hangs at an angle and the automatic opener struggles to move it. In the Santa Monica Mountains and foothill neighborhoods around Agoura Hills, gates on sloped driveways put extra torque on the mid-frame. When the frame flexes, the opener’s current draw climbs, and the motor burns out sooner than it should.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Agoura Hills, expect to pay $280 to $575 for most Elite hinge and frame weld repairs, installed. Replacement hinge brackets with welding run $280 to $400 per hinge. A cracked frame section that needs cutting out, a new steel insert welded in, and a re-powder coated seam runs $400 to $575 depending on the length of the section and whether the gate has to come off-site. Full hinge replacement on a heavy Hercules gate runs toward the top of that range because the gate weighs enough that we bring a second technician.

Every quote includes the part, the welding, the grinding and dressing of the weld, and a finish treatment to keep the repair from rusting. We settle the price before any work starts, and the price we quote is the price you pay. No percentage added at the end, no surprise line item for shop supplies. Ironworks Gate Co. is an independent service company, not affiliated with Elite, but we are trained and equipped on Elite equipment, and the repair is covered by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it is not right, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do is inspect: look at the hinge barrels for metal shavings, check the frame corners for cracked finish, and push the gate gently side to side to see how much play is in the hinges. That gives you a good idea of what is failing before you call.

What we would not recommend doing yourself is welding the gate while it hangs. A gate under tension can shift when a weld pops, and a hot weld on a load-bearing frame without supporting the gate first can pull the geometry out of square. We have repaired more than one gate that got a driveway weld job and never closed right afterward. The fix is usually re-aligning the frame after the weld. Call (213) 293-3886 and we will come out, look it over, and tell you exactly what we found before we touch a thing. If it rolls or swings, we can sort it out.
